Understanding Vyana Vayu: The Key to Holistic Balance in Yoga

Welcome to the serene Bhav Studio in Cronulla, where the ancient wisdom of yoga meets the vibrant energy of modern life. This week, we delve into the essence of Vyana Vayu, often referred to as the “omnipresent air,” a fundamental aspect of our yoga practice that brings harmony to both body and mind.

Vyana Vayu is the prana Vayu that integrates and balances the other four vayus within our body. Unlike other Vayus that are associated with specific areas, Vyana Vayu is present throughout the body and extends into the aura surrounding us. This expansive energy governs the movement of prana through the nadis, the 72,000 energy channels flowing through our body. It influences the circulatory, nervous, lymphatic systems, as well as our muscles, joints, and even our thoughts and emotions.

When Vyana Vayu is in balance, it creates a sense of well-being across all aspects of our existence - mental, emotional, and physical. However, an imbalance can lead to a pervasive sense of disharmony. Just as an orchestra relies on its conductor, our body and mind require a well-balanced Vyana Vayu for overall harmony.

At Bhav this week, we’ll be focusing on practices that nurtures Vyana Vayu. Standing poses, especially beneficial for Vyana, involve movement from the centre of the body outward. The movement through Sun A and B builds this force as well.

Nadi Shodhana, or alternate nostril breathing, is a pranayama practice that harmonises Vyana Vayu. This technique helps regulate the flow of energy through the nadis, enhancing both physical and mental balance. It's a practice we highly recommend at Bhav Studio for its powerful impact on Vyana Vayu.

Our approach at Bhav Studio is comprehensive. We believe in a regular yoga practice that includes Asana (postures), Pranayama (breathwork) and  Meditation. This holistic practice ensures that Vyana Vayu, the driving force behind balance, flourishes. The impact of Vyana on the circulatory system is profound. Yoga poses that enhance Vyana Vayu aid in the better flow of blood and nutrients, leading to improved overall health.

Balancing Vyana Vayu is not just about physical well-being. It's deeply tied to our mental and emotional states. Yoga practices at Bhav Studio, especially those focusing on Vyana Vayu, ensure that your mental and emotional realms are nurtured, creating a state of inner peace and harmony.
